Built by the Taff-Ely Borough Council in 1994 following significant pressure from Pontyclun Community and Borough Councillors, it was erected on land purchased through public donations in memory of Dr Gordon Jones.
It was constructed on the site of the original centre, which had been built in the 1930s by the unemployed people of the area.
Originally, it featured a Community Centre on one side and a Day Centre for the elderly on the other. In 2014, the Day Centre was transferred to Pontyclun Community Council and reopened as Caffi 50. Caffi 50 provides reasonably priced meals, social groups, and classes, giving people over 50 the opportunity to meet new friends, renew old friendships, and enjoy companionship. The community centre is widely used by the public, with many community groups holding meetings here.
In 2026, Café 50 was renamed The Meeting Place to reflect its growing role as a welcoming, multi use hub for the entire community.
