Pontyclun Town Council arranged a big party to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the opening of Pontyclun Railway Station on 18th June 1850.
The event in Pontyclun park included 24 local community groups/clubs/charities and a dozen food and drink traders. There was music, bouncy castles and a fairground ride with most stalls also having activities for kids (young and old) making it a great day out for all.
A huge crown turned out to enjoy the festivities with entertainment including a Pontyclun’s got Talent competition, and a Colour run organised by Friends of Pontyclun Primary school.
The event was made even better because, we were joined by a delegation from Ravensburg, one of RCT’s twin towns who had come over specially to join the day and were also able to announce that some of Pontyclun’s woodland areas had been selected to be part of Wales’ National forest

Of course as this was a birthday party there was a cake, a giant one made by Lisa at the Deli in Pontyclun – it definitely fed the 5000 or so it felt cutting it up!
The Town Council also inaugurated a new Freedom of the Town award which was given to 5 outstanding individuals who have gone above and beyond for our town.
