Our Community has a number of interesting and historical buildings across the whole of our community. Whilst we know that our built up areas have been around less than 200 years there is evidence of occupation going back centuries
The Town Council is putting together a series of History trails across our Communities which you can follow on foot in a series of easy walks.
This will be a phased programme with extra walks being added over time
Identifying our historic locations
Using our local knowledge, online sources and local historians we are identifying places in our community which have a historic interest to them. This could be because of its age or from a link with a historic figure.
So far we have identified and collated some information on over 50 local sites and you can access this here. You can see how things are going here. This database will grow as we identify more locations
At most of these locations you can find a QR code which if you access via your phone will bring up the information about what you can see.
History trails
Our first 2 history trails commemorated the 175th anniversary of the opening of Pontyclun Railway station. These were a short trail around Pontyclun and one that incorporated Pontyclun, Miskin and Talygarn/Brynsadler.
To commemorate 80 years from the end of WW2 a Remembrance trail was launched in November 2025.
They are provided in Welsh and English with a downloadable pdf of the route
The project has now created 7 routes with one further one for Miskin/Cefn y Hendy to be added once the paths in Cefn y Hendy are fully reopened - some are diverted temporarily due to the house building in the area.
