Pontyclun Community History Trail
Our Community has a number of interesting and historical buildings across the whole of our community. Whilst we know that our built up areas have been around less than 200 years there is evidence of occupation going back centuries
The Town Council is now starting to put together a History trail across our Community.
This will be a phased programme
Identifying our historic locations
Using our local knowledge, online sources and local historians we are identifying places in our community which have a historic interest to them. This could be because of its age or from a link with a historic figure.
So far we have identified and collated some information on over 50 local sites and are busy placing these onto our website. You can see how things are going here
We have developed some History point markers which we are placeing at locations near to the historic points. These include a QR code which if you access via your phone will bring up the information about what you can see. These have been sited at all the locations where we have information and permission.
Developing walking trails
Once our markers have been sited we will be able to create circular history trails for people to walk around and learn about the local areas. The aim will be for the trails to be relatively short, perhaps about an hour long and with an opportunity to expand by linking 2 or more together.
We expect trails to be at Pontyclun, Talygarn/Brynsadler , Groesfaen/Mwyndy and up to 3 around Miskin/Pantaquesta
