Becoming a Councillor
Are you interested in representing your local community by becoming a Councillor?
Being a Councillor can be very rewarding. Councillors can help if you are dissatisfied with a council service by advising or directing you to someone who can help sort out your problem and can sometimes progress the case on your behalf.
As community leaders they put forward proposals to improve their ward, which may include bringing together different community groups to develop a case for change.
Most candidates are nominated through a political party. However, individuals are welcome to stand in their own right.
The next elections for Community Councils and County Borough Councils are to take place in May 2022 and people who wish to stand should be nominated by about February 2022 so you should start thinking about it now.
Information about being a Councillor and what you should do can be found at the Be a Councillor website
