  • Pontyclun Community Graden - open day 17th August

Pontyclun Community Garden continues to blossom (no pun intended!) as we start to head towards the summer months and, hopefully, prospect of some better weather!

While we have had a somewhat topsy-turvy spring in this regard - alternating between warm, sunny patches (in February!) and seemingly never-ending days of drizzle and greyness (in June!), our plants are nonetheless thriving on this perfect storm of warm(ish) and wet conditions and we can clearly see the burst of life that is now taking place in the form of numerous vegetables, herbs and wildflowers. Our parsley and spring onions certainly have fared well and we welcome all visitors to come along and pick up any produce that is signposted as ready for picking.

Behind the scenes, our committee has welcomed new members who are teeming with lots of enthusiasm and new ideas, while our school volunteers have done a tremendous job on the ground, sowing lots of new crops and making the adorable little 'Pick Me' signs that adorn our garden.

We very recently hosted an event at Pontyclun's Big Picninc, which saw lots of visitors, old and new, coming along to join in with the 'Bug Hunt' trail' and planting sunflower seeds for the months ahead. We look forward to seeing lots of you bringing back your seedlings to the garden and seeing which will grow the tallest!

We will hopefully have more exciting news over the coming months, with a special 'open day' event planned for the 17th August to welcome new members and let them know more about how they can be involved with the garden - more on this to come soon.

In the meantime, please can we extend a big thank you to everyone in the community who came to visit us at the Big Picnic, as well as our social media followers who have participated in our community engagement polls and surveys in the last few months to help us plan upcoming projects. We also continue to be very grateful to sponsors, from local groups to businesses, who have supported us over the last year - we could not have come this far without you. Finally, many thanks to the Community Council, for their ongoing support of the garden.

As always, we are very appreciative and welcoming of new members and volunteers and would love to have you to join us at any point. There is no set commitment - just come along and have a grow, when it suits and as it suits. Please contact us via our Facebook Group - Pontyclun Community Garden, or find us on Twitter @PontyclunGarden. We look forward to hearing from you.
